Intestinal Cleansing

~ Colon Cleanse - My Health Journey ~
Before we start to discuss intestinal cleansing, let’s start at the basics. What, really, are the intestines? The intestines are comprised of two organs, the large intestine and the small intestine and are basically the digestive system from the stomach to the anus.
The colon is part of the large intestine, which is designed to work to get rid of solid waste material. The small intestine is designed to digest the food that we eat. Because of the lack of exercise and the bad dietary habits, what happens in the intestines? The small intestine works harder to digest chemicals in our foods, trans-fatty acids, and artificial flavors and colors. Because it works harder and these chemicals are harder to break up, more of the foodstuffs get passed to the large intestine. These foodstuffs end up getting stuck in the large intestine and, especially, the colon and may remain there for years!
The end result is serious bowel problems, including constipation, diarrhea, diverticulitis or prolapsed colons. There is some thought that the incidence of colon cancer can be attributable to the improper maintenance of the colon, although no scientific evidence exists that would prove a true cause and effect.
One of the websites that do safety studies and product reviews on intestinal cleansing products is Natural Healing Today.
