Food that Helps to Cleanse Your Colon

A colon cleansing program does not do much good if we don’t change our diet to ensure that the results last longer. Some of the essentials to a good colon cleansing food include:

Water. Drink plenty of water. It not only helps to flush and detoxify the body – it also helps keep the heart healthy and our skin looking supple and smooth.
- Fiber is another essential in our diet. Some experts recommend 20-30 grams of fiber per day spread throughout the day. Make sure to eat soluble and insoluble fiber, which includes oatmeal, raw fruits, vegetables, bran and whole grains.

Reduce chemicals, additives and preservatives. These foods are all unnatural and unhealthy. Our bodies were never made to be able to fully absorb these unnatural ingredients, which is why many theorize that these food help to clog the colon.

Stay away from trans-fatty acids. These fats not only do damage to the colon, but also to the heart and the circulatory system. These are fats that are found in such items as Twinkies, Ding Dongs, frozen foods, chips and other commercially fried or baked goods.

Reduce starches in the diet. Do not make pasta or rice the mainstay of the diet.

Raw, natural foods with color, such as green beans, spinach, apples, grapes, and carrots. By eating these foods raw, you are ensuring that you are putting the maximum amount of nutrients in your body and are not cooking with anything (like bacon) that can increase the fat and sodium levels of foods.

Yogurt or other food products that contain lactobacillus bacteria. This type of bacteria can help keep the balance of healthy and unhealthy bacteria in its proper levels.
